//TOKYO_Q4::DAY6-AKIHABARA
WELCOME BACK EVERYONE !!
Today is the sixth day of my travel log
Today we'll be spending the day together in Akihabara, searching
for some nerdy stuff !
Outfit of the day !
I made sure today's outfit fits the vibe of Akihabara, so it was inspired by the j-pop group
Perfume which I've been a huge fan of since I was a
kid
I picked the futuristic white sweater to match my
mecha knee-socks, added some cyber elements by using wired headphones as hair ties & my
favorite Mini-Disc keychain (which I made myself) on my bag.
Trying to find some second-hand stuff
Most of the time when I go to Akihabara, I'm trying to find second-hand goods and retro tech
stuff. So that's exactly what I planned to do today
We started
by taking a look at the
various "rental showcase" (レンタルショーケース) stores scattered around the
train station. This is
usually the best place to find second-hand anime goods : those are stores full of
transparent boxes that people rent to display their items for sale. This makes it easier for
people to resell their anime goods so you can often find really good
deals on figures,
gachapon items, and other merch
I was looking specifically for the Rei Ayanami Nendoroid Doll, as well as Serial Experiments
Lain/Toro Inoue merchandising which I couldn't find
anywhere that day unfortunately, but while looking in a
second-hand doll store, I saw this Dolfie
Dream head piece for 160'380 yen (~1000 USD)
This
made me think that
maybe I shouldn't get into the hobby of Ball-Jointed Dolls
However I did find
some adorable gachapon keychains of little flip phones ! The two
big ones can actually record
sound which then can be played through the phone's speaker. Let me know what I
should play
on it
Next I headed to some hobby-stores to look for some cute model
kits, decals and various
stuff to customize my existing model kits !
Unfortunately despite seeing a lot of paints
that I wanted to purchase, it's impossible to bring back model
kit paints from Japan, since
airlines do not allow flammable materials such as paints in your luggage... That's really a
bummer because relying on online pictures of the paint means that it's pretty much
impossible to truly preview how the paint would look like in real life once it's dry, it
usually ends up looking different from the pictures
I did find some cute model kits, including that adorable cat
girl ! This model already
existed in pink, which I'm not really a fan of, so I was really pleased to find that they
made a blue version of it !
Is it just me or does that blue hair girl kinda look like me?
Quick stop at a Maid Cafe
I planned to go to my favorite cyberpunk-themed maid cafe in
Akihabara, but it was
unfortunately exceptionally closed that day, I was so
disappointed !
So we decided to go to
another maid cafe nearby that I wanted to try : Lilian Plian, an ice-fairy themed maid cafe ! I
had my Rei acrylic stand in my bag so I jumped on the opportunity to do some oshikatsu with
all the blue drinks !
Finally we feast ...
After spending hours walking around in Akihabara, we were of course seriously hungry
I was craving sushi,
and the most convenient spot for that is usually conveyor-belt sushi ! I knew that nearby
was a Sushiro, so we didn't have to look really hard for a
restaurant
Sushiro was doing a cute collab going on with sushi-animals,
where every 10th sushi ordered
would start a mini-game on the conveyor belts tablet. If you're lucky
enough, you could win
merch from that collab ! And lucky we were... we won an adorable
bear-salmon soy sauce dish
! (I didn't film our lucky roll, so I could only attach a video of us losing our many gacha
loses)
As you can see by the size of our plates tower, we absolutely DEMOLISHED the sushi !
My
favorite seasonal sushi that I discovered that day is the spicy tuna gunkan-maki, the tuna
was marinated in a sweet and spicy soy sauce... super delicious
!
Thank you for reading this sixth travel log ! I hope you had
as much fun reading it as I had writing it ! I'll see you
in the next one, stay tuned !
