//TOKYO_Q4::DAY9-MEGURO
WELCOME BACK EVERYONE !!
Today is the ninth day of my travel log
Today I'll be spending the day exploring around Naka-meguro
Today's mission is getting my nails fixed, going to a liminal
space cafe and spending the evening at my favorite cyber
bar !
Outfit of the day !
It was chilly that day so I picked my favorite long-sleeve Chloma sweater to stay warm. Of
course you all know my love for skorts (skirts with shorts lmao)
but I had to add some
legwarmers to not get too cold during the day, I recently got
these legwarmers with cutouts
around the knees so I used those ! To accessorize, I added these frutiger aero headphones
that my bestie Stardrugg kindly gifted
me !
The quest of the broken nail...
I was wearing chrome press-ons during that week and one of them had fallen off the night
before
so
I wanted to try to find some nail glue... and I swear I went to
5 different
drugstores / beauty stores and couldn't find a SINGLE nail glue
anywhere...
So I decided to
just show up to a nail salon and ask them to glue it back on for me instead...
Of course I didn't have an appointment so I had to go door to door to several nail salons
around the Naka-Meguro area to find someone that had a 5 minutes window to help me
But
finally after 5 different salons I found one that could help me
! I paid for the service and
went on my merry way to a cafe nearby !
Pro tip : Don Quijote stores seem to always have nail glue, so skip the drugstores if
you're ever in my situation...
Liminal cafe ??
I had this cafe on my list for a while, I saw it on instagram and
got mesmerized by its
liminal space vibe... the mysterious computer in the center of the room... and the fact the
room itself is mostly empty, with the tables and chairs only placed along the walls... this
made the whole space feel very surreal
On that day I had brought my little Rei Ayanami acrylic stand to
take some oshikatsu pictures at the cafe, I feel like the
liminal vibe of the place would make this cafe one of Rei's
favorite places...
The cafe's menu is super minimalist too. When I was there they
only had 3 items : carrot
cake, royal milk tea and fruits tea. The carrot cake was DELICIOUS
and I was extremely
surprised that the recipe was really faithful to recipes I usually get in Switzerland ! I
believe there are multiple recipes for carrot cake depending on the country, so I was
surprised that it was identical to the ones I get at home. I also got the royal milk tea
because this is one of my favorite drinks (I'm not a fan of coffee), which was also
delicious !
I also noticed something on the cups we got for the drinks... As
you can see in the pics
above, there was a little paragraph in English written on there to fill the space. When I
paid attention to what it said, it got a chuckle out of me...
Here's what the sticker said
I'm writing something here. Why, you ask? Because it kind of looks cool, especially in Japan. They say that when there's some context, it tends to appear more valuable. And if it's in English, its even better. So, here's a completely meaningless sentence. Sorry to everyone reading this. By the way, I had ChatGPT translate it for me. Apologies, but we dont understand English ourselves.
Cyber bar time ...
To finish the day we headed to my faaaavorite cyber bar ! (Do
I count as a regular if the
bartender recognizes me when I come in?
) I haven't
talked about this place in my
blog before but it's not my first time going there, however it was the first time I went
there since around 6 months ago, so I was happy to see the owner
of the bar again, he's
always so friendly !
We got served angel wings or 天使のはね (Tenshi No Hane) for
snacks
which is a Japanese snack from Okinawa that tastes a bit like popcorn ! They do look
a lot like torn angel wings... but they're actually really
delicious ! I also asked for a
custom "Image cocktail" to match Rei Ayanami's style, and the
bartender made me a delicious
minty and sparkly cocktail. It looked so cute next to my Rei
merch
One of the other clients there brought their Ball Jointed Dolls
(also known as BJD) to take
some cute pictures of them. I asked the bartender about it and apparently he made his
establishment known as "BJD friendly" which is apparently pretty
rare
you
can imagine that
they usually get weird looks if they take out dolls in public or regular cafes, so it's nice
to know there's a circle of places that welcome hobbyists and
make them feel welcome
I thought they looked adoooooorable so I couldn't resist asking
for some pictures of the
dolls. I've been thinking about getting into this hobby for a
while now, but I haven't
really found the doll that caught my eye yet, the selection available in physical stores is
pretty limited so I have to dig more online to find the perfect
one
Thank you for reading this ninth travel log ! I hope you
had
as much fun reading it as I had writing it ! I'll see you
in the next one, stay tuned !
